Endless

She opened her eyes and
gazed at the darkness.
Tonight was never different from the other nights.

The creaking of the bed and
his heavy footsteps on the carpeted floor;
Moving away.
She has memorized
every drop of water from the faucet in the bathroom
where he is at.
She can imagine how he scrub
his body with her soap; from
his neck to
his broad shoulder then
to the tiniest hairs of
his chest
down There where she used to plant her caresses --- Endless.

She wanted to believe that
these nights will also be
endless, like her dreams she longed to do;
endless, like how she plans to keep him in her heart;
endless like the barking of dogs from her yard
endless like the uncountable stars she sees outside; End-
less . . .
resembling the tears warming her cheeks.
She laid her back on the bed and faced the ceiling.
The glow of the night lamp
fades its brightness.
Seemingly mocking her forthcoming
solitariness.

She never thought that it would be like this.
The bathroom door clicked open.
She smelled the soap and toothpaste as
he headed straight to the door.
She felt the emptiness of the bedspread
beside her.

This night was never different from the other nights.
